The first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima detonated almost directly above this dome. Though the building survived but every one inside the building were killed instantly. The ruins are a mute reminder of horrors all wars including nuclear wars. The structure has since been designated as Hiroshima Peace Memorial and is locally known as A-Bomb Dome.
