Caupolicán

This statue atop Cerro Santa Lucìa, Santiago, honours Caupolicán, the military leader of the Mapuche people of Chile, who led uprising against the Spanish conquistadors. He ultimately died a violent and bloody death at the hands Spaniards who impaled him by forcing him to sit on stake in presence of his wife. (Wikipedia)
