This 14th century fortress on the southern banks of River Una is in Hrvatska Kostajnica, a town located in Croatia on the Northern Bank of River Una. As it is on the Southern bank of river it is geographically closer to the town of Bosanska Kostajnica in Bosnia and Herzegovina but the area is under political control of Croatia.
It is interesting to note that there are two towns with the name Kostajnica. The one on the North banks of the river is officially called Hrvatska Kostajnica and it is in Croatia. The other town on the Southern Bank of the river is officially called Bosanska Kostajnica and is in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the 1991-1995 war it was occupied by Bosnians but was later handed back to Croatia. It suffered some damage during the war but has since been renovated.
